Thoro is pushing the boundaries of autonomous workflow by redefining what it means to develop and deploy autonomous systems in the real world - one workflow at a time.
Our Story
Built from the ground up in the heart of robotics
Pittsburgh doesn't just have a robotics industry, it built one. Home to Carnegie Mellon University, the birthplace of modern field robotics, and a decades-long tradition of turning hard engineering problems into deployable technology, it's the right city to build something that actually works in the real world.
The Beginning
Founded in Pittsburgh, 2021
Thoro was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of the world's leading robotics and AI ecosystems, with a task to create a one-of-a-kind product: An industrial autonomous scrubber that was completely self-contained. It was to function without connectivity, have no infrastructure required, and be safe and robust. Spun out of Carnegie Robotics, Thoro brought deep technical roots to tackle these challenges.
The Platform
Building the autonomy layer the industry was missing
Following the success of the Nilfisk SC50, Thoro expanded into the material handling industry with the BPM44, the autonomous pallet truck made in collaboration with Big Joe Forklifts. Rather than build yet another machine, we wanted to build a platform that was designed to be hardware-agnostic from day one. A platform that would work on any OEM platform, any form factor. Thoro, as a company, set out to achieve this vision. To build an autonomy layer that could be reused, scaled, and deployed to any workflow imaginable.
Today
Deployed, scaling, and expanding
With over 1,300 systems deployed and active partnership with leading OEMs across material handling, cleaning, and industrial logistics. Thoro's shared autonomy platform is live, solving unique workflows all across the globe.

What Drives Us
Easy to work with
We remove friction, not add to it. Our team shows up ready to adapt, communicate clearly, and make every partnership feel effortless.
Driven to succeed
We set ambitious goals and chase them relentlessly. Success is the outcome of disciplined effort, constant collaboration, and genuine ownership.
Unafraid to challenge the industry
The status quo is not good enough. We question assumptions, push boundaries, and build what others say cannot be done.
Customer pain is our problem
We don't sell products, we are solving real operational headaches. Our customers' challenges get our full attention until they are resolved.
One step at a time
The future is built incrementally. Every release, every platform, every deployment, every lesson is a deliberate step toward the future we envision.
One team mindset
We do not see partners and customers as external. When we win, everyone wins. We design for the whole ecosystem, not just our slice of it.
